Are you a veteran who would like to do more to support your fellow veterans? Do you enjoy supporting others to reach their goals? Are you needing a flexible schedule? The Community Supports program is looking for an independent problem solver to be a Life Skills Coach for the Wounded Warrior Project. The Life Skills Coach position is a community-based position working with veterans who have brain injuries, PTSD, neurological disabilities and other cognitive or physical challenges.

TITLE: Life Skills Coach
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part time; Non-exempt
JOB PURPOSE: Support veterans with disabilities ("wounded warriors") and provide opportunities to increase participation in community activities, increase social capital, improve quality of life and develop meaningful and purposeful activities.


  • Provide assistance and guidance with identifying choices and making informed decisions that involve veteran's activities and life. 
  • Provide structure and support in household management such as: maintaining cleanliness of home environment and establishing a safe, healthy and efficient routine.
  • Assist with participation in recreation and community activities in order to promote socialization and establish relationships with peers.
  • Provide training or assistance with mobility in home environment, using adaptive aids and accessing public transportation.
  • Assist veteran with improving community living and integration skills in a variety of settings such as shopping, church attendance, sporting events, club participation, classroom support, volunteer/employment support, etc.
  • Clearly and thoroughly document all interactions per funder and Agency guidelines.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required, direct care experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injury highly preferred. Veterans highly preferred. Candidates should poses: knowledge of disabilities and special needs populations (preferred); knowledge of resources within the county; ability to comprehend, speak, read, and write effectively in English; ability to do basic math; ability to problem solve, to effectively multi-task, plan and prioritize to meet deadlines; effective communication skills; basic computer skills (required). Must be certified in CPR and first aid within 60 days of hire date (these trainings will be provided upon hire along with required agency trainings).

MISCELLANEOUS: Reliable vehicle, driver's license and auto insurance with the ability to travel independently required. Must have the ability to obtain a Class E Missouri license within 60 days of hire. Must have the ability to continually walk or stand up to 3 hours; ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds in weight. Must have the availability to work days, evenings, nights and weekends.
