Are you skilled with kitchen utensils/tools, good at following directions and able to work independently? Destination Desserts, the gourmet dessert bakery and food truck, is looking for an experienced, quality-focused prep cook and baker's assistant.

JOB TITLE: Prep Cook & Baker's Assistant
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part time or full time, Variable hours; Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: Assist chefs in producing high quality products in large volumes and prepare a variety of food products for baking and cooking. Help provide support services to social enterprise employees with disabilities.


  • Follow chefs' daily prep list and prepare ingredients for baking and cooking (e.g. wash, peel and chop fruits and vegetables; clean and cut meat, fish, poultry and fish).
  • Measure ingredients, flavorings, seasonings and condiments for use in baking and cooking.
  • Label ingredients and food items and stock pantry and refrigerator shelves in an organized manner.
  • Perform basic baking/cooking tasks such as stirring, mixing, sifting, straining, parboiling food and reducing sauces.
  • Use manual and electric equipment for food preparation.
  • Properly store food items in designated containers.
  • Sanitize work areas and equipment; assist with washing dishes and trash removal as needed.
  • Maintain records of quantities of foods and ingredients used and update supervisors when stock of food items or supplies are low.
  • Comply with food safety and sanitation guidelines.


  • Requires prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push objects or materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires stooping, bending and reaching.
  • Must work in and around fumes and odors.
  • Must maintain appropriate levels of personal hygiene.
  • Must follow enterprise guidelines on food service dress code.
  • Must work with electrical appliances.
  • Must work with dishwashing liquids and powders, solvents and other cleaning chemicals.
  • Must work in environments of above average heat or cold.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required, culinary training preferred. Knowledge of food preparation and safe food handling required; background as a prep cook or related experience highly preferred. Must have manual dexterity to ensure proper operation of kitchen utensils and cutting tools and be able to read a recipe and follow through to completion. Must have valid safe food handling certification or have the ability to acquire certification.
MISCELLANEOUS: Must have effective communication skills, basic math skills and the ability to perform tasks well in a fast-paced environment. Must be available for early morning shifts. CPR certification and first aid training required (these trainings will be provided upon hire along with required agency trainings).
