Destination Café, the up and coming South City restaurant, is looking for a customer-focused, leadership-oriented person to manage our team.

JOB TITLE: General Manager
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full time, exempt
JOB PURPOSE: Manage the daily front of the house operations of Destination Desserts Café, including the selection and development and performance management of employees. Manage back of house operations through collaboration with Head Cook. Also included in daily operations management tasks are maintaining and increasing revenue, ensuring efficient operation, and maintaining high quality customer service and quality in all areas.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and supervise front and back of house staff.
  • Oversee and manage all areas of the restaurant and make final decisions on matters of importance.
  • Create and review all schedules for staff.
  • Complete weekly inspections (and maintain a log of them) of kitchen to maintain cleanliness and follow health and safety regulations.
  • Assist and review with lead line cook when ordering and receiving inventory.
  • Must be capable and willing to step in and work any and all café positions in the event of staff call offs or if additional help is needed for busier shifts.
  • Work to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, beverage, supple, utility, and labor costs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all financial (invoices, reporting) and personnel/payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Enforce sanitary practices for safe food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure compliance with operational standards, agency policies, federal/state/local laws, and ordinances.
  • Maintain all proper licensure and permits for restaurant.
  • Must be ServSafe certified.
  • Respond promptly and positively to all customer complaints escalated to management.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervision, development, conducting performance reviews, discipline, and termination of employees.
  • Must work collaboratively with agency personnel responsible for coordinating consumers in our training or hiring programs.
  • Act as a strong and positive presence in local community; promote the café through word of mouth and restaurant events.

REQUIRMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Hours may vary as manager will have to fill in for his/her employees or if emergencies arise.
  • Ability to perform all functions at restaurant level, including delivery when needed.
  • Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion.
  • Must be able to balance safely, even on slippery surfaces.
  • Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operate phones, computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • At least 5 years of management experience in a food and beverage setting required.
  • Must have experience working all primary restaurant positions including line cook, prep cook, and demonstrated experience with front of house duties.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in following dimensions of restaurant functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, agency policy and procedures, personnel management, and recordkeeping.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • At least 5 years of management experience in a food and beverage setting required.

MISCELLANEOUS: Must have effective communication skills, problem solving skills and the ability to manage stressful situations to a successful outcome. CPR certification and first aid training required (these trainings will be provided upon hire along with required agency trainings).
